America needs rail

Reader comment on: Thomas Sowell on High-Speed Rail

Americans need to understand that to be a world-class economy you need world-class infrastructure. In the 20th Century the USA built its economic might on the strength of its railways and its freeway network. To sustain that position however there needs to be investment to compensate for many years of infrastructure neglect. Building high-speed rail will provide sustainable transport infrastructure for future generations and create jobs for the present. It is not by any means money wasted.
