It is not only Democrats who are avoiding the tough choices of cutting things - the bipartisan committee is 14 Democrats and 21 Republicans. As this site often mentions, Democrats AND Republicans do not cut things. Look at George Bush's disastrous accounting of the wars, the prescription drug benefit etc. The Republicans have zero credibility on deficit reduction.
