An example that could reduce a few costsReader comment on: New York Times on the Budget Submitted by Lyle (United States), Apr 1, 2011 17:22 For various reasons the US has 2 tsunami warning centers the all pacific one in Hawaii, and one for Alaska, the Canadian West Coast and the US Coasts in Palmer AK which has 2 folks on duty 24x7. In addition the staff of the one in Hawaii was 7 in 2004 and is now 15. It seems that the two could be combined in one center (perhaps with 2 locations) and the staffs be combined and perhaps shrunk a bit. Modern telecom suggests that we don't need but one location watching with other personnel on call. Note: Comments are moderated by the editor and are subject to editing.
