Ca has too many duplicative research programs

For example a wine program at U.C. Davis and one at Fresno State. Perhaps at the graduate level there should be a no more than 2 to 3 programs in the state of CA, with the State colleges going out of the Phd business completely, and UC limiting its programs. For example in Earth Sciences you might have Berkley, UCLA and UCSD (because of Scripps Oceanography). UC Davis has geology program, but it really should be merged into the Berkeley one. (These are just examples but given the oversupply of PhD's in the sciences (so they have to go post doc) let alone talk about the humanities, where IMHO everyone who thinks about this area should have their head examined.
