The 40 hour week with two days off is a result of labor negotiations and the wage and hour laws. Earlier the 48 or 60 hour week was common. So the question is a weekend 1 or two days? I think history will show that the boom of the 2000s was a false boom brought upon by borrowing from the future. A boom and a bubble are different and the mid 2000s was a bubble, lead by everyone following the herd, into can't lose areas like housing by groups like the real estate shills.
