Government sells out the future

Reader comment on: Catholicism and the Budget Battle

The Pope and Paul Ryan are stating the obvious - Selling out the future is evil. It is insane for such a rich nation to borrow from the future in such massive amounts. The national debt per actual taxpayer is over $200,000 (half of workers pay zero income tax). Governments (federal, state and local) spend $6 trillion per year, and government regulations cost another $3 trillion per year; that 61% of GDP for government.

Our federal government has proven it is terribly irresponsible. Many states are too. We must have a Constitutional amend to prohibit borrowing and to require repayment so we can get out of this mess eventually.
