And indeed, the dear editor is correct -- Butler's piece does go into deeper and indeed what I would call moral issues. My comments apply only to the excerpt here. I should have read the entire piece, which is really quite good.

Government, with its monopoly on force, is a blunt instrument. It should be used sparingly and most circumspectly.
