He got knocked out of the presidential race when he talked about the military brainwashing him over vietnam. I think history has proven that the best and brightest brainwashed the media (which were much fewer at the time) over Vietnam. George spoke truth folks did not want to hear. I recall growing up in the Detroit area, and listening to the Canadian (CBC)news, my folks remarked that it was clear there were two different wars going on depending upon which countries news you listened to. Actually at the time the best and brightest forgot the lessons of 1864 and how for a good part of the year Lincoln was loosing the election until Atlanta fell, or what Marshall knew (based upon the Civil War experience) that unless you were clearly winning the US population would eventually tire of a war.
