... then they'd view regional and local passenger rail systems as fuel-efficient synergistic technology, not competitive technology. They would define themselves as being in the "passenger transportation" market, and not merely the "air transport" market, and they would themselves invest in passenger rail lines that fed passengers into their airport hubs.
