Why is this? I've been puzzling this for years. If you are a capitalist why don't you defend capitalism? With the OWS movement why do so many people feel driven to find something, it seems almost anything, to agree with the OWS'ers about? Why the need to find common ground? Are the OWS'ers showing any inclination to find common ground? No, they want what they want. There's no compromise or reason to their argument. Why to do others feel compelled to assuage their tantrum?

Yesterday my employer, a very large world-wide manufacturer, held a local meeting in the facility I work from. One of the topics being relayed on from the giant corporate headquarters had to do with our 'social responsibility' and 'giving back to our community'. Isn't my companies first 'social responsibility' to make a profit and then pay me and others workers with it? Isn't it their primary responsibility to create as much wealth as possible to benefit the stockholders and employees? Why do they insist that they 'give back' part of it to someone or some organizations that has not contributed to the success of the corporation in any way? Why 'give back"? Doesn't that also imply that my company has taken something? What did they take? Didn't they exchange value for value? Why not give more to my 401K then? Doesn't that seem more 'socially responsible'?

Don't get me wrong. I give over 10% of my income to charity. I believe very strongly in personal social responsibility.

To me the 'social responsibility' of the corporation I work for should be to the stockholders, employees and customers. When those have been recompensed fairly and responsibly the corporate 'social responsibility' has been fulfilled.
