Two possiblitiesReader comment on: Marx's Audi Submitted by Lyle (United States), Nov 8, 2011 17:44 Either the library board is stupid and overpays or to get the qualifications they want they need to pay that much. Since in many respects the job is sort of similar to a college president in likely having a large fund raising component, the pay is in the same neighborhood. If one does not like the pay ask the board of trustees why, or better yet get any random city councilperson to do so. It is the board of large public institutions that sets pay, so they likely have hired the same consultants companies use leading to the race to the top of executive salaries. Or convince who ever appoints the board to appoint you. Note that the library is a public private partnership. Not seeing any obvious listing of how board members are appointed it's clearly run like a private company where the board selects its friends for membership on the board, i.e. an old boys and girls club. I note there are life trustees as well. So it's a get along to get along situation. Note: Comments are moderated by the editor and are subject to editing. Other reader comments on this item
