Worse than alcoholReader comment on: Cellphone While Driving Ban Submitted by ben (United States), Dec 14, 2011 09:29 Texting while driving is 35% worse than driving drunk. Even Breitbart links to this research study. While I agree that we should not have a nanny state, if I kill you in a crash because I was texting, I have violated your right to be alive. I would say that one's right to live supersedes one's right to text while driving. Before having a knee jerk, ideological reaction against government regulation perhaps thinking about why the government might have the regulation would help. The Future of Capitalism replies: The original post says I am for enforcement of anti-reckless driving laws (for exactly the "right to be alive" reason you cite above), so I don't see how that fits with your criticism of knee-jerk ideological reactions against govt. regulation. I think in this case, as often, smart regulation regulates outputs (how the car drives) more than inputs (activities of the driver). How do you explain lack of rise of auto fatalities in combination with widespread cellphone uptake? Older drivers have slower reflexes. Do we want to ban them?
