In theory in the US you do get money for your property, whereas in China it is just taken, so that is a big difference. Now for the non-public end uses I have a simple solution, pay 150% of fair market value. Interestingly an example shows that this does work. One of the transmission lines put in for wind to move electricity from west texas east was done without benefit of eminent domain, the company wanted to get it done fast, so they just paid extra for the rights. Some money can always make up for the apparent damage a power line might do to your view. Just like I wonder what folks in Pa and NY would think if they owned the mineral rights on the gas, and thus could get big checks for no work by allowing it.
