Reader comment on: Even More on Who Are the Unemployed

Submitted by Frank (United States), Mar 7, 2012 10:21

I've been witness to several colleagues who were unemployed and coasted along until their final check. They suddenly developed a sense of urgency and all of them found jobs within 2 months of their unemployment expiring. Be interesting to see the statistics on this.

At the workplace people are worried about layoffs though some are close to retirement age. More than once I've heard "this is my last job and if I'm laid off I'll collect unemployment for a year or two then retire". Skeptics think this kind of behavior is uncommon but I'd warrant it is far more prevalent than given credit for.
