Government spending

Reader comment on: Barone on Obama and Reagan

Submitted by ben (United States), Mar 14, 2012 20:21

During Reagan's first term, government spending increased drastically, while during Obama's term, government spending (both state and federal) has not increased at all. Argument for stimulus anyone?

The Future of Capitalism replies:

I don't think it's accurate that federal government spending did not increase in Obama's first term. OMB numbers for outlays

2008 (last year of Bush) $2,982 billion

2009 (first year of Obama) $3,517 billion

2010 (Obama) $3,720 billion

2011 (Obama) $3,833 billion
