I can see why the token Republican in the employ of the New York Times would find favor with Fletcher. However, Fletcher's departure from the party is warranted by his voting record and stated preferences alike. Of course, his timing reminds me of a certain ex-Senator from PA. Fletcher is deserving of the same fate. Currently, the GOP owns a much bigger tent than the Dems, and if Fletcher can't find a home there then his "independence" is welcome by the Republicans.
