An accidental american is one who was born in the USA but lived abroad for most of the time after birth, and has little relationship to the US. If you don't really have any ties to the US the tax issue is such that you should renounce as it has little consequence if you don't have ties to the US.

The other question is to which countries are they going, it better not be Europe as things are worse there.
