Thoughts about immigration on July 4

Reader comment on: Obama's Immigration Promises

Submitted by Adam Wildavsky (United States), Jul 4, 2012 20:33

I am no fan of our current President, but let's give him credit for the steps he has taken since this editorial, small though they may be,

I was reading the Declation of Independence today and noticed this complaint about George III:

He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.

It's sad that we now have this power and choose not to take advantage of it. Open immigration would be a great benefit to our nation and to the millions around the world who would like nothing better than to become Americans.
