The relative cost of a coke.

Reader comment on: Coke for Breakfast

I recall that back in the 1950s a 6 oz coke cost a nickel. (Had for a long time) but back then a nickel was worth something (and was made of nickel to boot). Using Silver as an index (I think gold exaggerates somewhat) that would be 6 oz for around $.80 to $1.00 or so. Consider that today it is 44 oz for a dollar, or in a bottle 20 oz for $1.25 . Working that out it should be between $2.13 and $2.66 for a 20 oz bottle today. So yes soda is far cheaper than when I was a child. (It was quite a treat to be allowed a soda back then had very rarely, although my parents may also have had a non economic view on the subject).
