Weren't tolls originally collected to pay for the construction of the Queens Midtown Tunnel? (Maybe it was the Triborough Bridge). And weren't (and aren't) those tolls still in place long after the original construction costs were paid off? So instead of the government helping us all out with their infrastructure projects, are they not placing a burden on all of us by still forcing us to pay tolls even though the projects have long been paid for?
