Reduce the size of governmentReader comment on: The State Tax Revenue Hole Submitted by Dennis Behreandt (United States), Mar 23, 2010 13:05 As I pointed out recently in column, the cure for inflation is fiscal conservatism, built on the foundation of a return to Constitutional government. See here for the whole column: http://www.dennisbehreandt.com/en/blog/304-how-to-stop-inflation That said, fiscal conservatism is the solution for many things, not just for the problem of inflation. States would not need to collect as much via taxes if spending were controlled. Moreover, less intervention in the economy would stimulate growth, and that leads to the Laffer curve. instead states dole out money. Consider, in Wisconsin, for instance, it's normal practice for the state to give millions of dollars to private firms for "expansion" and job "retention". The trouble is, they first stole that money from the taxpayers. The state assumes in its almighty wisdom that it can employ the dollars thus stolen more ably than the poor taxpayers who have been victimized. But, alas, socialist planning is never as effective as the market, and inefficiencies result in numerous ways, the inherent corruption of "crony capitalism" being just one. The solution is to restrict the size and scope of government. Failure to do so will result in the continuing impoverishment of all.
