Reader comment on: The Whisper Number

Submitted by John Scherr (United States), Apr 16, 2010 13:37

Hello Ira,

Just to correct a couple of errors in your article (as I am sure you do not want to mislead any readers):

1. WhisperNumber.com is a free website. Yes, registration is required, but it is free. So your statement of us being "a paid Web site" is misleading and incorrect.

2. We don't claim to, nor have we ever stated that our data is "the unpublished estimate that some analysts give clients". Again, misleading and incorrect.

3. You state "the whole thing runs counter to the ideas of transparency and equal information that undergird the rules". Yes, when the media reports on a whisper number but does not provide the source, this statement would apply. But our site is transparent, open, and has been consistent with its data collection methodology for the past twelve years.

4. You have never, did you make any attempt to educate yourself and visit our website. Otherwise you would know "who is doing the whispering" and that they receive nothing in exchange for their earnings expectations.

Please do yourself and your readers a favor - educate yourself, take two minutes before you write something like this that can mislead investors, and find out for yourself what our company (or any company for that matter) is doing.
