Sachs, rhymes with Tax

Reader comment on: Jeffrey Sachs Versus Cuomo on Taxes

Submitted by Charles Lipson (United States), Jan 22, 2014 17:23

There is a simple way for Prof. Sachs to put his money where his mouth is. Make a payment, in lieu of taxes, equal to the normal NYC real-estate taxes on his dwelling. Universities often make such payments in lieu of taxes. There is no reason Sachs cannot. If he wants to make it tax deductible, he can make it in the form of a gift to an appropriate city fund (or its related charity branch).
