Sure maybe in a decade Luxottica will actually have some competitors, but when it comes to breaking monopolies the free market's feedback effects are glacial if they even work at all. Government intervention would have immediate and dramatic effects.

It's a noble idea, that the free market can take care of the free market, but it's just not true. Anti-trust enforcement is the only way to keep the free market healthy.
