The immorality of the minimum wage

Reader comment on: Reasons Against Minimum Wage Increase

Submitted by George Leef (United States), Mar 5, 2014 09:05

Cogent reasons all, but I particularly like number 6. In a free society, people should be at liberty to make whatever contracts they wish. It's morally wrong for the state to dictate how much anything (an hour of labor time, a month's rent, the price of a tomato, etc.) must trade for. And for the government to threaten legal force against one party to a labor contract for not choosing to raise the contractual pay for workers is an abuse of power.
