It makes a lot of sense, in particular if you then tax it. Just Like I would do with a lot of drugs. Since gambling is legal in most states in the sense that they have casinos, unless you want to protect the casino owners allow internet gambling. If people want to screw up you can't really stop them. Recall that bookmakers and the like existed even in the 1950s when basically the only legal gambling was in Nevada. I think we begin to see an end to the neo-puritianism of the early 20th century, moving to social libertarianism, where if people want to screw themselves up, that's their right (you can't really stop them anyway).
