1956 vs 2014

In 1956 there was a committment on both sides to assimilation. I don't think that's true in 2014, and without it it's very hard to absorb large numbers -- skilled or unskilled.

Well, assimilating into the multi-culti left = not assimilating. On other hand, don't underestimate power of American popular and consumer culture — cable TV, Walmart, Disney movies, SuperBowl commercials.
