College degrees pay better today than they did in the 50's. Besides, a college educaion isn't primarily about making more productive workers but about making better citizens. Wide availability of educaiton is a threat to the dominators that rule. The problem is that people are only interested in education for the purposes of increasing their income when they should be concerned with being more informed with a broader perspective.
