This is precisly what a narrow network is a negotaited price. Of course if you look around the web, one can find lab test for far less than the hospitals charge, (outpatient), but it is cash or credit card please, no 4 week delay on payment.

Because the insurance company can bring more business it can get a bigger discount. Its just like compare the rates a mom and pop company pays for rental cars to say ATT or GE. Bigger customers pay less that is the story of the open market, all be it today it may not be justified by the costs involved.
