I observed medicare overpaying back in 2003 when my mother needed an oxygen machine. Medicare payed for a rental at a rate such that in 3 months you could buy the same machine on the internet. Or consider that when a power wheelchair is obtained for a person it is not reclaimed on death, but rather stays with the family.
