Why does Barney Frank feel he has to be the lenders' shill?

Yet another example of crony capitalism supported by (drum roll) a Democrat. As the article correctly notes, that there is no way to hedge risk with the federal government doesn't mean that there is a need for the federal government to hedge risks at all. Last I checked, the federal government doesn't run shoe stores, but we are not suffering a lack of them.

Even in retirement, Mr. Frank can't resist the allure of getting the federal government involved where it is not needed.
