The real Mario Cuomo

Reader comment on: Mario Cuomo

I would suggest that your readers consult a New York Magazine article, August 8, 1994, which profiles and examines the legacy of Cuomo--simply stated, he was great at spending other people's money and scoffing and trivializing any constructive criticism of his tax and spend policies, which helped nobody and nearly ruined the economy of New York. My "fondest" memory of Cuomo was his penchant for making long winded tirades that were contemptuous and dismissive of any opinions that were contrary to his stated policies or positions. I would add only one more observation: How many real press conferences in which Cuomo answered substantial questions of reporters did Cuomo hold during his 12 years in office? You can probably count them on one hand. Other than Cuomo's unbending ideology, there is really nothing positive to say about the former governor.
