It's a shame that Transcanada did not use free-market methods in establishing their path. It is a fairly well-known (among pipeline/power-line/roadway builders) idea that one way to a) avoid eminent domain violations and b) to get the best pricing for property purchases along a Route -- is to establish 2 or 3 alternate routes and if parties along one route try to stop the project or demand out-size monies, there is always the threat of using one of the alternate routes.
