But assume an autopilot model. If you follow the airplane model the person sitting in the left seat in the US would still be responsible if there is an accident. If that person is not paying attention and the autopilot screws it up, you can bet the "driver" would be responsible. If as a pilot the autopilot screws up as for example on the Air France plane from Brazil a few years ago, it is the pilot who is ultimatly responsible for the accident. (See the report on that accident).
