GeorgismReader comment on: Magnet Versus the Kleptocrats Submitted by David Weinkrantz (United States), May 19, 2015 18:01 The value of land (by itself not including the value of any building on it) emanates from that which is near to it. That is, it emanates from society not from the subject landholder. Accordingly, its increasing value should be shared with society rather than captured by a landholder that didn't create the societal value. Land should be taxed to capture the incremental value created by society. This could reduce or eliminate the need for taxes on productive people and obviate the need for control of rents. I base this on the writings of Henry George. Note: Comments are moderated by the editor and are subject to editing. Other reader comments on this item
