Elegy to the Nutmeg State

Reader comment on: GE Looks To Leave Connecticut

Submitted by Andrew Terhune (United States), Jun 9, 2015 17:31

There was a time when Connecticut was seen as a tax haven from New York. It was run by New Englanders, Republican and Democrat, who had a distrust of the state and a history of strong town government. Not that long ago its congressional delegation was evenly split between R's and D's reflecting its citizens' middle-of-the-road views.

In the past two decades, the state has taken a turn to the hard left. It began with instituting an income tax and the politicians, now addicted to that river of revenue, have never looked back. As one who was born in CT and has fond feelings for the state, it pains me to see it, a state among those with the highest per capita wealth, killing its golden geese.
