Recall that immigrants would reduce wages was part of the campaign of the Know Nothing party, and every so often the idea re-occurs. I guess if you just took econ 001 on supply and demand it would appear clear that a larger supply of labor would reduce wages. But of course as usual making things very simple hides the necessary details.
