What is wrong with asking if a migrant would help the country out ala Canada?

I might see elderly parents, but in no sense siblings being brought in, or adult children. If a sibling does not qualify under a points system, then no entry. Since siblings bring in spouses which bring in other family and on and on (all be it in many cases there is a 25 year wait to be admitted, which implies no point at all in having such a system. Every other country that does immigration makes the choice for economics. As I say parents over 60 ok, but no siblings.
