Nobody is saying banks aren't important

The villification comes in when discussing predatory lending, gambling on CDOs, getting bailouts from government, and not acting in the best interests of its own clients. Taking deposits, lending money, issuing debit cards etc are all valuable services that banks provide, and should continue to provide. I don't know of anyone who is advocating eliminating banks.
