The key terms in your post are "basically owned" and "seems like unassailable market dominance" : "basically owning" is clearly not actually owning, and to whom did that dominance seem unassailable besides your younger self? If some government regular was stupid enough to try and intervene, someone else in their agency, or a judge, or public outcry would probably stop them, or maybe the government-backed alternative would just fail. But either way, using something that didn't happen and no one proposed to prove a larger point about government intervention in markets just wastes everyone's time.
