I keep wondering if Kasich thinks that the party might turn to him without provoking open revolt. After all, if he does indeed hang in there, he gets much credit for that alone. And not having participated in the bitter back-and-forth so far, he might see himself as a calming alternative.

Anyway, that's the reason I'm thinking he's sticking with an otherwise apparently quixotic and unrewarding effort.
