With the ability to actually make deposits and pay bills online, the need for branches has decreased. Consider that some banks now have zero branches period such as the survivor of GMAC. Now Citi may well have decided that Ma is not a place it could make money at the rate desired due to the branches. As to the customer inconvience are there not other banks or credit unions in the area, then just move your accounts.
