DefinitionsReader comment on: Socialism on Campus Submitted by Eugene Rifkind (United States), Mar 31, 2016 17:47 What dictionary defines Socialism as the normal functions of all government? My Oxford desk dictionary defines Socialism as: "...state ownership and control of the means of production, distribution, and exchange." Examples might be state controlled energy monopolies, e.g., Petrobras, Pemex, etc., or state controlled telecommunications monopolies, Truman's attempt to nationalize the steel industry, etc. Are our academic masters trying to change the common definition of Socialism to make it seem attractive, instead of being idiotic? Scandinavian countries are NOT Socialist, unless Volvo, Nokia, ABB, Erickson, or IKEA were nationalized while I slept. Note: Comments are moderated by the editor and are subject to editing.
