Because of the need for capital to make the various improvements to their stores smaller (1 and 2) store franchisees of Mcdonald's are being squeezed out in favor of larger operators (6-10 store minimum). It is both the kiosks as well as mandatory remodels required by the corp. Some older stores have to be totally torn down and rebuilt. This obviously is a problem for the small operator as they don't have the access to capital needed.
