John Quincy's son Charles Francis Adams served in the House, and as Minister to Great Britian during the Civil war. His son Charles Francis Adams Jr, served as a Brigader General during the civil war and was president of the Union Pacific from 1884 to 1890 If you go to this link you see that other members of the family also had successful careers : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adams_political_family, that a great grandson of John Quincy was secretary of the navy.
