But the first paragraph shows that the journal lives proudly in Herbert Hoover's shadow. I took some econ classes from avowed Keynesians, and they would surely agree that government spending does have a multiplier effect (I recall it being a bit less at 1.64). I would prefer that instead of giving out unemployment, we get something back for our money and start an actual jobs program. Why not get some use for those dollars? Either way they get spent, we might as well have some state parks get cleaned up and some students get a bit of extra tutoring. Of course, the cries of "socialism" would only grow.
