The Smithsonian in general and the Newseum cover different areas so they attract a different set of customers. The more important question is given the view of the news by the public who wants to go to a Museum that celebrates the whole distrusted institution? Of course the Newseum came after the the air and space museum and indeed after the whole Smithsonian complex, so they should have been aware of their surroundings, meaning the folks that built it did not understand their true market.
