By its very name the status was not intended to last forever. It has been close to 8 years since the earthquake, is it supposed to be a hidden get a green card package?. The same reaction occurs whenever a similar status such as the one for El Salvador earlier was ended. The folks trying to enter should have of course known the program might end. In a similar vein Obama ended the automatic granting of the right to stay to Cubans, again trapping some at the border. it might have been better to do it in two stages, first end the entry program, and announce that in say 2 years those already here need to be prepared to leave.
