I admit, The lower numbers ARE slightly less outrageous, but still, as Palmer implies the comparison to the other transit systems shows that the NYC system is way way out of control on costs. Previously I would have used three "ways", now I'm only using two. Big deal. This would have been a useful article if the NYTimes corrected the numbers to a point that the NYC transit system was only 10 or 20% above other systems. BUT the numbers are still completely nuts, so I don't think the editor's example of the prosecutor coming back with more modest, but still bad numbers is an accurate portrayal of the GAP in these transit numbers.
