Putting customer service and IT in Nashville, also helps in that it is easier to serve folks on the west coast. Also if the CEO has a plane, then New York becomes a nice place to visit but would not want to live there.
A lot of insurance companies choose Omaha for centrality also. The weather in Nashville is likely better than NYC also, and why put up with the big city hassles?
